I've been having some technical difficulty with the blog, but I think it's working now. I meant to post this earlier in the week, but every time I went to post something would happen.
Well, this Music Monday post is about Voice, aka Curtis Allen. I've been listening to his CD, Progression for a few weeks in my car stereo. If you like rap and don't want to listen to questionable lyrics, get this CD. There are some tight beats, but the lyrics are even tighter. My favorite song is "Maybe." I think it is my favorite right now because it deals with feelings and subjectivity versus the absolute truth of God's word. My favorite line is "can we agree right now, emotions don't save, emotions don't save." I raise the roof every time I get to that part.
I remember the first time I heard Curtis perform. I was at NA 2004 and heard him rap along to the song "You've Captured Me." Sovereign Grace has the song on their website, so you can go listen to a sample here and purchase it here. I remember when he finished I was blown away by his talent and how I didn't have to worry about what I heard. Since that NA I kept my eyes peeled out for a CD. He did release an EP titled Unstoppable and I grabbed that up. It had some of his demos and I was bummed that some of the songs did not get on the Progression CD but maybe they'll be on a later CD?
He also had an interview over at Between Two Worlds here and his webpage is ihearvoice.com.
He recently spoke at our church in the last 6 months and I think he's planning on being at Youth Camp. I'm grateful to God for saving and raising Curtis to make rap music glorifying God. If I remember correctly, I think it was Bob Kauflin or Mark Altrogge that said that they belived rap was being redeemed through Curtis' music.
So check it out, yo. A'ight. Peace out.
