NOLA & HOUTX Trip

Hey everyone,

I know I said I would live blog, but several different things came up that didn't contribute to my liveblogging. So here's a recap..a long recap...but there are pictures! And of course no story would be complete without some of my "funny" references.

I flew into NOLA on Sunday 7/13. After my sister picked me up from the airport, we met my aunt and one of my cousins for dinner. It was so good to see my aunt and the boy cousins. It has been about 10 years since I had seen them. I would talk to them over the phone, but seeing them in person is way better. After dinner the "girls" went to Starbucks for some coffee and chatting. We ended up "closing" Starbucks. Granted it was only 9 pm because it was a Sunday, but it's still cool to say we "closed" Starbucks. (Funny Reference #1)

So Monday, my aunt had to do a half day work so my sister and I hung out with the boy cousins. My cousins are teenagers and they are pretty cool. Before my aunt got home, Heidi and I went to Winn-Dixie to get supplies to make dinner for everyone. We tried looking for a Piggly Wiggly but Winn Dixie will do. It doesn't really matter where we went but it's always fun to say "we went to the Piggly Wiggly!" (Funny reference #2.)

Tuesday my sister and I headed west to Texas. It took about 6 hours to get to Houston from NOLA. Six hours of trees and flat lands...really flat lands...and lots of bridges...and flat lands...you can see how exciting this part of the trip was. So we got into my parents place safe and sound.

Wednesday through Saturday was kind a blur as we did lots of things. Lots of things inside...as it was at least 100 degrees everyday. Not the dry kind off heat, but the humid, oppressive, drenching, nasty heat. Yeah...we did go somewhere for two hours and more on that later.

So some things we did and that I took some pictures of...well...one day we went to Gander Mountain. Gander Mountain is like Cabela's. While my sister and father went to look at pistols, my mom, jackets...I wandered around and found these...
I did not get them, but I still took a picture to mark the special occasion of wearing actual cowboy boots. I wouldn't know when to wear them except for maybe walking??? (Funny Reference #3)

Another day we went the Houston Musuem of Natural Sciences. There was a cool exhibit about Leonardo DaVinci and his inventions. His ideas were very ahead of his time. This will make my homeschool friends laugh but at one point, I thought "this would totally count for homeschool!" (Funny Reference #4)

But probably the highlight of the day was Geopalooza! A Hard Rock Anthology No I didn't make that up, but that is Funny Reference #5. Geopalooza! was an exhibit about rocks but it was cool. Towards the end of the exhibit there was an area where you could pay for a geod to be cracked open. So my dad and I went in on it and this was my half.

Pretty cool? I tried to get a picture of the inside of it but it didn't turn out to well. If you're at my house, ask me about it and I will gladly show it.

Friday we traveled to Kemah, Texas. Kemah is popular to locals for its' boardwalk. We spent only about two hours there because it was really hot. It was 106 degrees when we got out of the car. I am proud to say I did not get burnt nor faint. It was sooo hot!

Saturday, my last day, we went to the mall, saw The Dark Knight (loved loved loved it!!!) and then we went to Black Jack's Bar and Grill, a restaurant owned by my parent's friends. The food was so good!

So there's my trip! There might be one more trip this year with my family, but we're still working out the details. If it all works out it will be another great trip...and a lot cooler..maybe even with some snow. I'll leave you with that little teaser...

Thanks for the recap. Fun to read. Piggly wiggly - I know - isn't that a hilarious name? I like to say that too. It's always hard to get back to work after a good trip away, isn't it?

I'm glad you had a nice time away, but glad you decided to come back to us. I had to chuckle when looking at the cowboy boots - thinking how hard it would be to wear two different shoes with one of them on your foot. :-)
Love ya,
~Teresa

I'm glad you had such a great time and glad you're home! =)
Man, here I thought we'd finally countrified you...I was envisioning those boots with some Wrangler bootcut jeans, a flannel shirt and maybe tease your hair up into a dolly parton look-alike with a cowboy hat perched precariously atop! Sigh. Now we'll never know...
=0)
p.s. i think i know what the next trip is!!!! but i won't be bad and say it here....
also, love the new website colors!! how do you customize like that?

ok...well, i was going to have to hurt you if you were planning another trip to hawaii, but since you commented about cooler weather and possibly snow being involved i'm doubting it's hawaii!
so...guess we'll have to wait and see :)
