Rescue from Myself

Ever feel like you need rescued from yourself? I think that's God grace and mercy if you do, at least I've found that to be true in my life. Still thinking about Bob Kauflin's message yesterday at CCL (listen or download). I would definitely say that that was a message rescuing me from myself.

Today, I came across this, reading Paul Tripp's blog, and it was another sign of God saying I needed rescued from myself and where that rescue comes from. Paul writes,

God is the ultimate Helper. He alone has the grace to rescue you from you. What does this mean? He gives you power to deal with all the sins of thought and desire that get in the way of you doing what God has called you to do.

What comfort! What hope! What a Savior!

Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Phillip Bliss, 1875

Man of Sorrows! what a name
For the Son of God, who came
Ruined sinners to reclaim.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Bearing shame and scoffing rude,
In my place condemned He stood;
Sealed my pardon with His blood.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Guilty, vile, and helpless we;
Spotless Lamb of God was He;
“Full atonement!” can it be?
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Lifted up was He to die;
“It is finished!” was His cry;
Now in Heav’n exalted high.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

When He comes, our glorious King,
All His ransomed home to bring,
Then anew His song we’ll sing:
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Amen, sister. I love the very name "Savior." In a world fraught with no one who can really save us from anything, "Savior" sounds almost fairy-tale like. But it's truth! And I am praying this very night that God would save me from myself. Thank you!
